Slatington Public Library

Local historian and writer Mr. William Leickel has produced a book entitled "Business's along the Boulevard." Leickel has researched different topics involving the history of the Northern Lehigh area, some of which were the local movie theaters and the railway systems.

It became evident while he was doing his research that it was important to document what exists now so that future historians won't have quite as difficult a job. He therefore decided to make a book containing a picture and description of the businesses on Main Street in Slatington. Included in the book are some historical pictures of old businesses that no longer exist. Stop in the library and take a look.

Free workshop

A free seven-week workshop for Northern Lehigh Community families with children in grades six through eight will be held in the Northern Lehigh Middle School Annex, next to the cafeteria, on Tuesday evenings, Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16, from 5:30-8 p.m.

At that time, Northern Lehigh School District will present Strengthening Families, a seven-session program designed to help parents, guardians, or grandparents and students (ages 10-14) from our community learn how to enhance their communication skills, deal with conflict, approach "touchy" subjects, and become better able to handle stressful situations.

The program includes dinner, child care for children ages 2-10, and attendance prizes.

Please contact Karen Nicholas, assistant to the superintendent, at (610) 767-9800, ext. 2, or knicholas@nlsd.org, for more information or to register.

Participation is limited.
