Carbon driver in Monroe accident
A Carbon County driver was involved in an accident in Monroe County. State police at Fern Ridge said the accident occurred about 8:47 p.m on Thursday, Sept. 30, along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.
Troopers said Joseph M Cyburt, 48, of Weatherly, was driving a 1996 Freightliner tractor with trailer westbound in heavy rain when he lost control of the rig. The rig jackknifed and traveled down the center medium with the trailer portion still in the left travel lane. Troopers said Allan Swantek, 63, of Dallas, Luzerne County, was westbound in a 2004 Cadillac and ran into the rear of the trailer.
The trailer's safety rail penetrated the compartment of the Cadillac trapping Swantek inside. He was freed by rescue personnel and transported to the Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County, by Pocono Regional ambulance. Cyburt was not injured.
Tobyhanna Township Fire Company personnel assisted at the scene.
Troopers cited Cyburt for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
