Tennessee man jailed in Carbon

James M. Gordon, 50, of Midway, Tenn., was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, after his arrest on Oct. 8 at 10:45 p.m.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he failed to get his vehicle started at a red light at the intersection of Canal Street and Route 209 in Franklin Township. Police said he was having difficulty working the manual transmission.

After taking the man into custody, police said he became combative, throwing a shoulder into the body of the arresting officer.

In addition to the DUI charge, Gordon was arrested for simple assault, resisting arrest and related traffic offenses.

He was lodged in the prison pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 13.
