Schuylkill driver facing DUI charge

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 2:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, along Market St., just north of Fourth St., in Port Carbon.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Maria Spinelli, 35, of Port Carbon, was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee southbound and failed to negotiate a slight left curve. She lost control of the Jeep for unknown reaons and traveled across the nothbound lane and struck a rock embankment.

Spinelli was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of head and neck injuries. Troopers said she showed signs of intoxication and submitted to a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.

Damages to the vehicle were severe.
