Teen facing DUI, other counts
A teen is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) and other counts following an incident in Carbon County. State police at Lehighton said the incident began about 2:05 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, along Berger St. and Pohopoco Drive, in Towamensing Township.
Troopers said Chaise P. Terruta, 18, of Kunkletown, was observed operating a 1997 Kia Sephia without the headlights on. Troopers attempted to pull him over but Terruta traveled north on Berger Street at a high rate of speed. He stopped at the intersection at N. Penn Forest Road., then exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
A short foot pursuit ensued with Terruta ignoring commands to stop. He was stuck with an electronic incapacitation device (taser). He was taken into custody.
He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and was taken to the barracks where he submitted to a breath test.
In addition to the DUI charge, Terruta will also be charged with fleeing and eluding police and various motor vehicle code violations.
