Lions speaker
The Western Pocono Lions Club's monthly dinner meeting will be held at Ye Olde Saylors Inn, Olde Route 115 (aka Sullivan Trail), Saylorsburg, with the gathering set for 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.
Kerry Knapp, captain of the West End Ambulance Association Corp. will speak on the work load of the association.
Participants are reminded to bring a nonperishable food item for the PVEN food bank or to be prepared to "Feed the Purple Pig."
Marcellus Shale
David Messersmith, extension educator, Penn State Cooperative Extension, will present a program on Marcellus Shale: Impacts and Implications for Monroe County, from 7:45-8:45 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Pleasant Valley High School in the new auditorium.

Monroe seniors
Wednesday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 19, are meeting days for Monroe County seniors who call Zion Lutheran's Fellowship Hall their meeting place. The group meets at 11 a.m.
Zion seniors
Zion Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18. That group is for folks 50 years old and older. Those who go should remember a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
PV Board meets
The Pleasant Valley School District board of directors will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, in the district office on Route 115 in Brodheadsville.
Free mammograms
For those who qualify, based on age and income, etc., women are able to get a free mammogram at Pocono Medical Center, the local participating Mammography Voucher Program Provider.

Special visit
Confirmation students at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will visit the Muslim Association of Lehigh Valley in Whitehall, Nov. 21. The purpose of the visit is to learn about the faith of Islam and observe a Muslim prayer time.
Thanksgiving dinner
Effort UMC is hosting its free 5th Community Thanksgiving Dinner for those who have no one to spend the day with, for those who aren't traveling, for those who don't cook anymore, on Thursday, Nov. 25, beginning at 2 p.m.
