A special thanks
Dear Editor,
It is seldom that you hear that the government helps the regular guy. It is extremely seldom that those in government receive the thanks for doing something from the public! Here is my story about these events.
About a year or so ago I went into the Carbon County Action Committee offices in Lehighton to see if our family could get some help with heating cost for the oncoming winter. While waiting to be interviewed the receptionist asked me if I would be interested in the state's winterizing program? She explained what it was and asked again if I wanted to sign up for the program.
I was unsure what exactly what this program was or what it cost. I was told there wasn't any cost to me if we qualified from an income point of view. I did sign up for the program and I thought that would be the last I would hear from them.
Then out of the blue this last summer I received a call from the state's winterizing office to come into their Lehighton office to find out if we qualified and we did.
About a month later an army of craftsman descended on our home. There must have been at least six of them. They set about their tasks putting insulation around the doors, basement, and attic. They removed two old broken through-the-wall air conditioners and sealed and insulated the openings. Also they put a sturdy basement door in. They worked for two and a half days around our house, even taking away all the construction debris and disappeared into the night. A few weeks later another two men showed up and dense packed insulation all the exterior walls. Not to be undone, another few weeks passed when someone came with a brand new refrigerator to replace our old worn out one. They even insulated the water pipes and repaired a broken window.
To this date my wife and I cannot get over the fine work all these people did for us. Our home is a lot warmer and we see a major difference in our home!
So a big thank you for a great job, the kindness you showed us, and the warmth of our home. You government workers, regardless if you are county or state deserve a lot of thanks!
