Employee charged with theft

An employee at the Penn Mart store in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, has been charged with theft.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the manager of the store alleged that employee Philip G. Thorne, 30, of Tobyhanna, had been under-ringing merchandise at the store for a period from Aug. 10 to 16. Police said about $3,000 worth of merchandise, including cigarettes, was under-rung by Thorne.

He was arraigned on theft and related counts before District Judge Anthony D. Fluegel, of Tobyhanna, and released on unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10, police said.
