The Panther Valley Knee Hi will meet at the Sports Zoo in Lansford on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Summit Hill
Christmas party
American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will hold its annual Christmas party for all children from the community on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 1-3 p.m. at the post home.
The festivities will begin at 1 o'clock when Santa Claus will arrive. He will greet the children and give each of them a pre-Christmas gift. Food and refreshments will be served.
Event canceled
The Santa's Helper Event that was scheduled to be held tomorrow at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, the former St. Paul United Church of Christ, has been canceled.
Methodist Charge
The schedule for the Summit Hill/Coaldale United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Dec. 12, is as follows:
Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services. The adult Sunday school will meet at 10 a.m. in the Coaldale church.
Lansford
AMVETS to meet
Members of AMVETS Post 83, Lansford, will meet on Saturday, Dec. 11, at noon at the post home. Commander Michael Frey will be in charge of the session.
DVDs for servicemen
Lansford AMVETS Post 83 is still participating in Task Force DVD, a program in which DVDs are accepted and shipped to servicemen and women serving overseas.
The post has a bin located on its premises where donors can offer DVDs and funds to help pay costs associated with shipping the movies.
Michael Frey, post commander, said the AMVETS started collecting the DVDs for the project in October as part of a nationwide effort of AMVETS posts in hopes of bringing a little comfort to the men and women who are serving this country.
DVDs can be either new or gently used and can be any movie. They can be dropped off at the post at 201 W. Ridge St., Lansford, Monday through Friday starting at noon and Saturdays and Sundays starting at 10 a.m.
Council committee
The Facility Planning Committee of the Lansford Borough Council will meet on Monday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the borough office.
Parish ministry
A new endeavor of parish ministry, HOPE (Helping Older Parishioners Earnestly), is being organized at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford. Volunteers are needed to work in pairs to assist parishioners in need. For more information, contact Marilyn Barrett, (570) 645-0370.
Coaldale
First Congregational Church
Morning Worship will be held at the Ruddle Street church at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec.12, with Sunday School following at 10 a.m.
Choir rehearsal will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, with Bible Study at 7 p.m.
The Children and Youth Christmas program will be presented at the 9 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 19. Sunday School will be held at 10 a.m.
On Friday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m., the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held.
Morning Worship and the Lord's Supper will be conducted at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. Sunday School will be held at 19 a.m.
Nesquehoning
Christmas program
Nesquehoning Girl Scout troops will host a community Christmas tree lighting and caroling at Meed's UMC Church, 126 West Catawissa St. on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to attend and join in the caroling. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served following the singing.
Anyone who would like to bring new hats or gloves to place on the tree as a donation would be appreciated. Items will be taken to the Panther Valley Elementary School.
