Driver seriously injured in crash
A Schuylkill County driver was seriously injured in a crash that occurred about 10:50 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of state routes 61 and 895 in the village of Molino, West Brunswich Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Kyle Andrew Smith, 28, of New Ringgold, was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy eastbound on Rolling Mill Road and intending to cross 61 to continue east on 895 when his car was struck by a 1999 Peterbuilt tractor with trailer driven by Shanell Lapre Stamps, 35, of Statesville, N.C.
Troopers said Stamps said the traffic signal at the intersection had turned yellow for his lane of travel. The Subaru crossed directly into the path of the truck with the right front fender and door of the car struck. After impact the truck pushed the Subaru about 75 feet north before coming to rest in the northbound lanes.
Smith was flown from the scene by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, with what troopers said were serious injuries. Stamps was not injured. He was operating a vehicle owned by Douglas & Sons Inc., of Statesville.
Troopers said the investigation into the crash is continuing and there is no determination of fault at this time.
