Crashes probed

State police at Fern Ridge recently released information on several crashes probed by troopers.

A one vehicle crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 10 along the Effort-Neola Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Patricia L. Counterman, 39, of Brodheadsville, was northbound when she failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. Her 2001 Subaru Outback went off the road and into a field where it rolled over several times before coming to rst on its roof.

Troopers said Counterman, who was injured, was found to have marijuana in her possession and also an odor of alcohol on her. Troopers said a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) is pending test results. She was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance, troopers added.

About 9:10 a.m. on Dec. 9 troopers investigated an incident that occurred along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Lorvey Becerra, 60, of East Stroudsburg, was driving a 1998 Freightliner tractor with trailer eastbound when he heard the rear passenger side tire blow out. He noticed smoke and flames coming from the area and pulled to the side. No injuries were reported.

On Dec. 9 at 7:25 a.m. a one vehicle crash occurred along Stony Mountain Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Thomas J. Smyth, 17, of Albrigtsville, was driving a 2008 Suzuki SX4 northbound and attempting to negotiate a left curve when he lost control. The vehicle began to spin clockwise and went onto the east shoulder where it impacted with a tree and dirt embankment.

The vehicle then flipped over onto the driver's side and came to rest. Smyth was not injured.

Troopers reported on a crash that occurred about 4:25 a.m. on Dec. 5 along Jonas Road, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said the driver of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee failed to stop at the intersection with Merwinsburg Road and was unable to negotiate a left curve. The front of the Jeep struck an embankment and then overturned onto the driver's side.

The driver fled the scene and is being sought by troopers.

Troopers reported on a crash that occurred about 1:25 a.m. on Dec. 3 along SR715 in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Francis R. Coon Jr., 21, of Tobyhanna, was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus southbound when he failed to negotiate a left curve. The car struck a warning sign with the front end and continued on the road. It then struck two mailboxes and went into a culvert near the intersection with Center Road. Upon entering the culvert the car turned onto the passenger side.

Coon was not injured. He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
