Marian edged Mahanoy Area in a battle of unbeaten Schuylkill League Division 3 teams on Saturday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Mahanoy Area

The Colts used a strong fourth quarter to come from behind to pull out a 31-29 win over Mahanoy Area. The Colts strong defense limited the Golden Bears to only three points in the final frame.

Drew Sherkness and Mark Stawick both had eight in the winning effort for the Colts.

Mahanoy won the JV game, 46-44.

Kevin Oxley hit five three-pointers and sparked the Tigers to a 52-44 non-league win over the Eagles.

Oxley finished the night with 18 points and Andrew Rivera added 10 as the Tigers evened their record at 5-5.

Matt Maloney led the Eagles (3-5) with 15 points.

Blue Mountain won the JV game, 61-35.

Aimee Oertner's 23 and Sonya Josephson's 20 led the way for the locals.

With the win, NL (11-0), has now qualified for the District Eleven playoffs.

Trailing 34-28 after three quarters, Notre Dame of Green Pond outscored Marian 20-6 in the final eight minutes to pull out a 48-46 victory.

Meanwhile, the Fillies got a strong showing from Danielle Tristani and Angela Bellezza, who both tallied twelve with teammate Kaysi McLaughling right behind with 10.

Notre Dame also won the JV contest, 30-21.

The Lady Olympians downed non-league opponent Northwestern 51-31, after darting out to a quick first half lead.

Jeanna McElmoyle's 13 points led the winners in scoring, while teammate Brittany Holland added 11.

Northwestern had a strong individual effort from Sara Jones, who knocked down 11.

The Lady Tigers prevented the sweep with a 31-28 JV win.

The Lady Raiders outscored Hazleton in every quarter to pull out the 62-42 win in non-league competition.

Amy Zehner once again led the Raiders (9-0) in scoring with a game-hihg 28 points. Teammate Cassie Eroh also had a tremendous showing with 19 points in the supporting effort.

Hazleton won the JV game, 56-54.

The Bulldogs made quick work of the Crusaders by scoring seven pins in 11 of the bouts they won. Ty Herzog (112), Zane Heller (119), Dylan Hofmann (140), Kyle Greenawald (160), Colin Hedash (171), Dan Huemmer (215) and Brandon Loch (285) all scored takedowns for the Bulldogs.

Northwestern at Zephyr Duals

Northwestern traveled to Whitehall High School to take part in the Zephyr Duals.

The Tigers finished the tournament with a 1-3 mark, while ending up in 14th place in a field of 16 teams after dropping a close 39-30 setback to Pennridge High School.

Dylan Long (112) had the best showing for the Tigers going 4-0, which included a pin, technical fall, major decision and a win by forfeit. Ethan Keichel (119) and Levi Veppert (152) followed right behind with 3-1 overall performances. Veppert ended up scoring three pins for wins in his matches.

Tamaqua at Crimson Tide Relays

The Tamaqua boys won four events, while the girls won one at the Crimson Tide Relays over the weekend.

The Raiders' 200 medley, 300 IM, 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke relay teams all finished first for the boys. The girls 200 frestyle foursome was also victorious.
