'Dawgs, Tigers, Bears win wrestling matches

Northern Lehigh, Northwestern and Pleasant Valley all won in wrestling, while Panther Valley picked up a non-lague boys basketball triumph on Wednesday night.

WRESTLING

Southern Lehigh-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh used the strength of seven total takedowns to roll to a 68-6 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Connor Hedash (119), Zane Heller (125), Chris Christ (135), Nikko Stevens (145), Zach Fleming (160), Colin Hedash (189) and Brandon Loch (285) all scored pins for wins for the Bulldogs.

NL's Lucas Dise (130) and Dylan Hofmann (140) recorded major decision on the night.

The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 in the CL, while the Spartans drop their first league setback (2-1).

Palisades-Northwestern

Alec Eidelman scored a pin to help Northwestern escape with a 40-33 Colonial League victory over visiting Palisades.

With the hosts clinging to a 34-33 lead entering the final bout, Eidelman didn't disappoint his Tiger teammates in any way as he only sealed the deal with a pin over the Pirates' Derek Butler in 3:19.

Northwestern's Dylan Long (112), Eddie Faust (130) and Bobby Clymer (145) all also scored takedowns on the evening.

The Tigers improve to 4-2 in the Colonial League, while Palisades slips to 0-4.

In the Junior High match, Palisades posted a 57-39 win over Northwestern.

Notre Dame (GP)-Palmerton

The Blue Bombers got pins from Sam Oberlander, Dillon Massington, Dan Costenbader, Mike Englert and Kane Kralik but fell to the Crusaders by a 48-30 score in a Colonial League match.

Notre Dame took advantage of four forfeit wins and with the match starting at 215 pounds, went out to a 24-0 lead and never looked back.

Palmerton slips to 2-3 on the Colonial League season, while Notre Dame earns its first win of the season (1-1).

Ernie Klingel (112), Mike Dahlstrong (119), Jake Chamberlain (145) all won with pins for the Bears, while Alex Yanovich (125), Mike Pokrinchak (140) and Ryan Sokoloskli (152) picked up major decisions.

Brandon Silkowski and Josh Turner also added wins by decision and Kolby Mashack won by forfeit.

Lehighton-Panther Valley

Panther Valley jumped on Lehighton early and never looked back en route to a 71-34 non-conference victory.

The Panthers' Brock Mitchell had the hot hand finishing with a game-high 18 points, while Logan Stano was right behind with a 16-point performance. Joe Revell hit three three-pointers on his way to a double figures 11.

Nate Kresge paced the Indians with 11 points.

Panther Valley is now 6-2, while Lehighton fell to 0-7.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Minersville-Lehighton

The Lady Miners held the Indians to just two points in the third quarter and went on to score a 36-32 come-from-behind non-league win.

The Indians jumped out to a 18-12 lead at halftime, but entered the final eight minutes trailing 25-20 and had to foul down the stretch.

Lindsey Pukas led the Miners with 10 points, while Karista Schwiezer had a game-high 14 points for the Indians.

Minersville also won the JV game by a 33-13 score.

Panther Valley posted a 39-26 win over host Weatherly.

Jesse Mathewson netted a Panthers-high with 12 points, while teammate Lucas Damian ended up with 10.

The Wreckers' Josh Reiner finished with seven points.

JUNIOR HIGH BOYS BASKETBALL

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Weatherly escaped with a 21-17 victory over visiting Panther Valley.

The Wreckers were led by Nick Miller, who finished with 11 points.

Mark Williams and Kyle Ferryman paced the Panthers with six points a piece.
