Tamaqua Girl Scouts Thinking For a Cause
Ten Tamaqua area Girl Scout troops recently participated in a charity event designed to encourage the girls to think about the various non-profit and charitable organizations in the local area and what they could do to help.
Each troop had to identify a non-profit group or organization and then find out what they do and how they make a difference in the lives of others in the community. They then had to develop an item to make for their cause which would later be donated to that particular organization.
At the event itself, the individual troops had work stations set up where the decided item would be made. After initially starting at their own station, the girls would then move on to visit the other troop stations on a rotation basis. After a brief explanation from the troop leader at the new location about what the organization represents, each girl in the troop would then make the item for the cause of the particular station they were visiting.
Some of the organizations chosen included the Hillside SPCA, Tamaqua Adult Day Care, Women in Crisis, Dream Come True, Tamaqua Ambulance, Blessed Theresa of Calcutta Parish Outreach, Horses and Horizons, and Stonehedge Gardens.
An estimated fifty scouts, along with their families, attended the event. Each family member was asked to bring three canned food items for donation to the Tamaqua Trinity Food Pantry.
