Two PVHS seniors help get the message out of the importance of the census

Katie Kenny, 18, left, and Kelly Klapatch, 18, right, both seniors at Pleasant Valley High School, are currently in the Government Intern Program with the Monroe County Courthouse, a program initiated by social studies teacher, Dwight Heist 30 years ago. Each year selected seniors are assigned to county officials. Kenny and Klapatch have been involved with the 2010 census. They prepared a program about the importance of the census and they have been presenting it to all the classrooms and then ask the students to please go home and encourage their parents to fill out the forms. "This has been really an enlightening experience," says Klapatch and Kenny says she "I feel like we should have been paid we worked so hard." Dr. Douglas Arnold, PVSD superintendent told the girls and the board that the district has received a lot of favorable feedback from the program.
