A unique, month long celebration of the great outdoors in Carbon County is being planned for September 2010 according to an announcement made this week by the Carbon County Tourism and Accomodations Committee of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce.

Dale Freudenberger, Chairman of the committee said, "we are inviting and encouraging all businesses, tourist attractions, outdoor recreation outfitters, venues, non-profit organizations, and anyone else that is interested, to participate in this county-wide celebration. It is our committee's goal to showcase the tremendous opportunities that exist for enjoying the great outdoors in Carbon County and to encourage multiple day stays to enjoy them. Our county has a great deal to offer in outdoor recreation opportunities, spectacular scenery and unspoiled natural wonders. We feel the month of September is an ideal time of year to showcase and promote many of these activities."

The committee hopes to get everyone involved with planning all types of outdoor activities that are available to the public, and promote the great outdoors in Carbon County. In addition to the wonderful outdoor attractions offered regularly, people are encouraged to think creatively and 'outside the box' to create new activities and events as part of this month-long promotion and celebration.

All approved activities will be organized on a calendar of events for September, which the Chamber and the Tourism and Accomodations Committee will advertise and promote for the "Celebrate the Great Outdoors - Carbon County September 2010" event. The Committee hopes to draw many additional visitors and outdoor recreation enthusiasts to the county to partake in the many offerings expected during the month. It is hoped that this will also result in more overnight stays at our many fine lodging establishments.

Ideas for events might include but is not limited to, special offerings, discounts or coupons by businesses, white water rafting trips, kayaking classes, boating on our lakes and dams, guided trail hikes, bike tours, bird watching and identification workshops, guided walks to scenic overlooks, 5k run or similar, outdoor walking tours to historic sites, home garden tours, plant and animal education, guided geological hikes, nighttime astronomy workshops, fly fishing seminars, special camping activities, all types of outdoor seminars, green living workshops, guest speakers, clean water and environmental education, children and family activities, sounds of nature and wildlife identification, music beneath the stars, outdoor painting classes, visit a farm, organic home gardening workshops, build a rain barrel garden, winery tour, ski lift scenic rides, nature photography class, wildflower planting, and anything else that you can imagine which celebrates and promotes the great outdoors, nature and the environment in Carbon County.

The Committee asks that you notify them as soon as possible with information or ideas for September events so that they are included on the calendar. Existing annual outdoor community events or activities are welcome! Freudenberger can be reached via email at dale@delawareandlehigh.org or by phone at (610) 377-4063 to discuss your ideas.
