Local business owners donate storage shed to Franklin Township Athletic Association

Despite the rain drops, six business owners smiled on Tuesday morning as they came together at Baer Memorial Field, Lehighton, to see the results of their donation.
The six business owners, Larry Markley, Markley Insurance Agency; Rocky Ahner, Rocky's Garage and Additions; William Romano, Direct Connection Electric; David Walker, Walker Landscaping; Joseph Tessitore, Tessitore A/C Heating and Refrigeration; and Kim Rabenold of Gene Durigan Real Estate, each donated $200 to purchase the storage shed that was placed at Baer Memorial Field for youngsters enrolled in the Franklin Township Little League program to use to store their field equipment.
Wayne Wentz, president of the Franklin Township Athletic Association, said the shed will be used to shore the bases, equipment, pitching machine and lime for the fields.
"It will be used heavily," said Wentz.
Rocky Ahner said that all six individuals came forward and agreed to donate the funds when the issue initially was discussed.
"The neat thing is they came to us," said Ahner.
Markley said that he enjoys seeing his donation used for youth activities.
"Whenever we can keep children off the streets and involved in constructive activities it's a plus," said Markley.
"It says something for the Franklin Township Little League program when they needed more fields," added Markley.
Wentz said that the he was extremely pleased to accept the donation from the group.
"This came together so fast," said Ahner. "We discussed it two weeks ago and its already installed."
The six business owners that donated the funds are among the 30 members of the Blue Mountain Business Connections networking group which meets every Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Hampton Inn, Lehighton. For additional information about the networking group, see their website at www.mybmbc.net.
