Area resident named editor in chief of college newspaper

Kresgeville resident Vinny Vella, a sophomore at La Salle University in Philadelphia, was named editor-in-chief of the student newspaper for the 2010-11 year.

A communication major, Vella was the features editor this past year for the weekly newspaper, the Collegian.

"Being elected editor in chief of the Collegian is both exciting and intimidating," said Vella, who graduated from Marian Catholic High School in Tamaqua. "While this position is something that I have always aspired to, I still feel a little unprepared for the large increase in responsibility that comes with it. Running one section of the paper is entirely different than running every section of the paper."

While a student at Marian, Vella was also a writer for the TIMES NEWS' Young Voices section.
