Indians' Hill fired no-hitter, fans 15

Tyler Hill was dominating on the mound as Lehighton defeated East Stroudsburg North in Scholastic baseball action on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-ES North

Tyler Hill threw a no-hitter and struck out 15 batters to lead Lehighton to a 4-0 Mountain Valley Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.

Hill, who walked four batters, received offensive support from Jacen Nalesnik. The freshman catcher went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Indians (6-3; 2-1) also received a double and two runs scored from Kyle Hunter.

The loss kept the Timberwolves winless at 0-7; 0-3.

In a high-scoring affair, Catasauqua scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and eventually beat Northwestern, 12-9 in Colonial League baseball action.

Catty's Joe Taves let loose from a grandslam in the sixth to put his team on top for good. Taves finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBIs.

Adam Wehr and Nate Kester each drove in three RBIs for the Tigers (4-4, 2-3). Wehr had a triple, while Kester had a three-run homer in the fifth.

Marian won its fifth straight game by cruising to a 12-2 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.

Joe Kloap earned the pitching win, striking out seven batters in five innings of work.

The Colts (5-1; 4-0) received a pair of home runs, a three-run shot from Mark Stawick and Ryan Gimbi's solo blast that ended the game via the 10-run rule.

Scott Nietz added two hits, one a double, and two RBIs for the winners while Drew Sherkness had a single and a double. Brandon Doperia also chipped in with two hits.

Carl Wittig sent Tamaqua home with a 5-2 victory over Panther Valley as he connected for a three-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Fellow Raider Ryan Palsgrove also had a great day at the plate, as he went 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Jordan Heisler fanned 11 Panthers en route to earning the victory.

Tamaqua is now 3-3 (2-1) on the year.

Jocelyn Rodrigues was responsible for one of the Bulldogs' runs, as she doubled in a run.

Palmerton's lone run came off the bat of Jenna Ritter. Ritter doubled in a run as well.

Marian scored early and often, as the Fillies knocked off Shenandoah Valley 6-1.

Abby Burkhardt led the locals with two doubles and three RBIs. Teammate Nina Curran also had two doubles.

Leading the Fillies (3-3, 2-2) with three hits were Katie Donovan and Abbey Hill. One of Donovan's hits was a triple.

Kayla Knight handled her business on the mound, striking out six and walking just two in seven innings of work. The one run she gave up was unearned.

Allie Sotak tossed a three-hit shutout to lead Tamaqua to an 8-0 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Sotak struck out eight batters and allowed just one walk as the Raiders (2-6; 2-1) won their second straight game.

Tamaqua's Jordan Nowacki had two hits, one of them a two-run double, while Megan Amey also had a pair of hits. Lauren Mateyak added a two-run single.

The loss dropped PV to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Notre Dame GP jumped on top of Northern Lehigh and never looked back, winning 6-1 in Colonial League soccer.

The Bulldogs' lone goal was scored by Victoria Tadman-Uebele. She was assisted on the play by Carly Gavalla.

Palisades-N'western

The Lady Tigers scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-1 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

Katie Hallingstad, Katie Hughes, Sara Jones and Anna Fricchione each scored a goal for Northwestern (6-2, 4-1).

Goalie Chacha Ritter made five saves in net to preserve the shutout.

Salisbury-Palmerton

Kelsey Hadinger scored all three of her goals in the first half and led her Falcons to a 4-0 victory over Colonial League foe Palmerton.

Hadinger's goals came within eight minutes of each other. Teammate Emily Kotch had the fourth goal and assisted on all three of Hadinger's tallies.

The Cardinals blanked the Indians 7-0 on the tennis courts Wednesday afternoon.

The only members of the Lehighton team to win a set was the doubles team of Justin Ziegenfus/Steph Slaw. They won their first set, 7-5.

Sam Lux stayed perfect on the year and helped lead Jim Thorpe to a 5-0 tennis victory over rival Tamaqua.

Lux defeated Kyle Oliver in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Teammates James Denny and Mitch Franko also posted singles victories.

Evan Stoll managed to win Tamaqua's only set of the day. He took the second set against Denny, 7-5.
