Northwestern has pretty big day
Northwestern picked up victories in baseball, softball and tennis to highlight Wednesday scholastic sports action.
BASEBALL
No. Lehigh-Notre Dame GP
Notre Dame rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and then won it in the eighth, sending Northern Lehigh to an 5-4 Colonial League defeat.
Tom Crimi drilled a home run for the Crusaders, who also received two RBIs from Anthony Snover.
For the Bulldogs (7-4; 7-2), Tyler Bolton knocked in two runs and Joe Dugan had a double. Starting pitcher Eric Snyder tossed seven innings, striking out six batters.

Northwestern-Salisbury
Northwestern scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 4-4 tie and gain an 8-4 Colonial League win over Salisbury.
Ty Cunningham had a double and knocked in three runs for the Tigers (6-5; 4-4). The winners also received a pair of hits, one a homer, and two RBIs from Adam Wehr while Nate Kester added two hits and knocked in a run.
For Salisbury, Colby Kulig had a double, homer and knocked in three runs.

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
Blue Mountain scored at leat two runs in every inning but one and went on to beat Jim Thorpe, 13-0 in five innings.Along with earning the victory, the Eagles' Mark Harding was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jim Thorpe (1-9) was led by Pat Janecki and his two doubles.

David Hafer tossed a five-hitter and struck out 15 batters to lead Pine Grove to a 9-1 Schuylkill League Division I win over Panther Valley.
The Cardinals' Scott Frew hit a solo homer in the third inning while Keith Loy and Ryan Boyer each collected a pair of hits.
For the Panthers, who dropped to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the league, Greg Pecha had a single and a double.

North Schuylkill tallied seven runs in the sixth inning to blow the game open and enact the ten run rule, as the Spartans beat the Raiders 14-3.
Ryan Palsgrove led Tamaqua (3-6) with two RBIs. Teammates Jordan Heisler and Mike Streisel added two hits apiece.

Northern Lehigh scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out a 9-5 Colonial League win over Notre Dame.
Tamara Stubits had three hits for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the league. Kristi Seiler added two hits and knocked in a pair of runs while Julie Wagaman gained the pitching win.
For Notre Dame, Christiana Donofry collected three hits.

Northwestern-Salisbury
Northwestern broke a tie game with two runs in the fifth inning and then put the Colonial League contest away with four in the seventh, defeating Salisbury by a 9-4 score.
Jackie Wear and Kyra Barron both had two hits for the Tigers, who improved to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the league. Tori Papp tossed a six-hitter to earn the pitching win.
For Salisbury, Meg Walsh had a single and a triple.

Tri-Valley-Marian
Tri-Valley's Sam Wetzel snapped a 2-2 tie with a solo homer in the sixth inning and the Bulldogs hung on for a 3-2 Schuylkill League Division II win over Marian.
The Fillies used a two-run homer in the first inning off the bat of Alexa Nemeth to gain an early advantage.
Juli Weber earned the pitching win, striking out eight while walking three. Nemeth was the hard-luck loser, allowing just four hits and one walk while fanning nine.
Marian (4-5; 3-4) received two hits from Kayla Merchlinsky.

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
Blue Mountain jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 13-2 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.
Rhi Milliard and Nakita Singletary both had two hits for the Olympians. Darian Rodgers added a double.
Nikki Wozinski had two hits, including a home run for Blue Mountain.

Pine Grove-Panther Valley
Pine Grove dominated Panther Valley in its Schuylkill League softball game on Wednesday, winning 22-1 in four innings.
The Panthers' lone run was supplied by Georgiana Butler. She tripled in the fourth and later scored on an error.

Winning pitcher Cassie Lapotsky allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out four.
The only hit for the Raiders (2-8; 2-3) came from Lauren Mateyak.

Notre Dame ES-Northern Lehigh
Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg received goals from five different players to gain a 5-2 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
The Spartan goal scorers were Krissy Kramer, Selena Martin, Taylor Miller, Sarah Zurawa and Taylor Holmes.
The Bulldogs (1-12; 0-9) received a goal and an assist from Victoria Tadman-Ubele while Carly Gavala added a goal and Addie George had an assist.
Nolehi, which was outshot 20-9, also received 15 saves from keeper Emily Mulcahy.
Palmerton-Bangor
Bangor beat up on Palmerton, as the Slaters handed the Bombers a 7-0 defeat.
Abigail Bakke had a pair of goals and an assist for the winners, while Monica Weil added a goal and an assist.
Despite giving up seven goals, Kelsey Eaton still made 17 saves in net for the locals.
East Stroudsburg North

Pleasant Valley topped East Stroudsburg North at home, winning 3-2 in MVC soccer action.
