January 21, 1961 Palmerton's Billy Heydt sets a new Lehigh Valley League scoring record by hitting for 50 points in the Bombers' 66-49 victory over Stroudsburg. Heydt, who betters the mark of 48 by Palmerton's Bob Mlkvy and Ray Carazo, connects on 14 shots from the floor and goes 22-of-24 at the foul line. The sophomore ties the record on a layup with seven seconds to play and breaks the mark when he's fouled right before the buzzer and converts two free throws.
