Published January 12. 2010 05:00PM

The Nesquehoning Borough Water Authority staff received pay increases during the monthly meeting last night. Member Gary Porembo made a motion to increase the pay scale for Mark Lopata and Joe Canzoneri to a 50 cent increase.

Office manager Mary Theresa Hunsicker will increase 60 cents more. Office clerk Sue Smith will be held off until next month.

There will also be a reimbursement of a $250 deductible that was added when the plan was changed on the Blue Cross.

Re-election took place with all members retaining their positions. Serving as president is David Hawk, vice president is Frank Parano, treasurer Bill Hausman, assistant secretary/treasurer Gary Porembo, and secretary Denny Creitz.

The board accepted the audit for 2009, adopted the budget for 2010, adopted to rehire the office clerk and operators, rehire the engineer, auditor, and solicitor, and raise their pay scale from $80 to $90perhour. All meetings will be held the usual second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.

Tom Merman had some questions and advise for the board. He is still telling them to put meters on all of the wells in the borough. He also said when the water tank in Hauto is ready to be replaced, which will be very soon, it should be moved to the Fourth Hollow area.

The board tried to get some financial assistance, but was told that the state can not help in an already paid project, but would be happy to assist in another project.
