Coaldale MFA candidate in graduate art exhibit
Local resident, Ryan Hnat, Coaldale, will exhibit his paintings in the Graduate MFA Exhibition at Marywood University, Scranton, from May 1-June 25.
The exhibit will be held in the Mahady Gallery, Shields Center for Visual Arts, with an opening reception on Saturday, May 1, from 5-7 p.m.
Hnat considers himself an action painter trying to engross himself in the "consciousness of the event of the now."
Through his exploration of shape, line, and color, he utilizes the inherent characteristics of oil paint on canvas.
His nonfigurative, abstract compositions explore the realms of consciousness and action to help create, solve, and illustrate the problems of culture and life the events of now.
Hnat works for the Anita Shapolsky Art Foundation in Jim Thorpe, where he is the director of activities and education coordinator, and has been a graduate assistant for the past year for Marywood University Art Galleries.
He obtained his bachelor of science degree in art education from Penn State University.
The Graduate MFA Exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours include Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
