Concourse Club names Guiding Star for April

The Concourse Club of Palmerton will be honoring five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area School District.

The Guiding Stars were chosen by a committee of teachers and staff from the Palmerton Area School District.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class who is actively involved in school activities as well as in community activities. Each Guiding Star will receive a $500 scholarship in May.

The Guiding Star for April is Allison Nicole Horinko, daughter of Maria Horinko and Mark Horinko.

Her hobbies and talents are quilting, reading and public speaking.

Her school activities include Student Forum (president), Looking Out (treasurer), Student Council (secretary), Leo Club, Environmental Club, school newspaper (editor), yearbook (editor), Science Olympiad, varsity track (four years), varsity basketball (three years), and Carbon County Oratory competition.

Her community activities include Relay For Life, Senior Games, cat shelter volunteer and marathon volunteer.

Allison plans to attend Virginia Tech as a biology major, and hopes to continue to medical school.
