Tamaqua driver facing charges

Charges are pending in a hit-and-run accident that occurred in Tamaqua on Dec. 30.

Officers were dispatched to 29 Lafayette St. at 6:07 a.m. after residents reported their vehicles had been struck by another car. The suspect vehicle had left the scene.

Officers responded and observed a 2001 Oldsmobile traveling north on Washington. The car's passenger side headlight and the bumper were out of place. The officer followed and stopped the Oldsmobile on Elm Street.

The driver was identified as Alyssa McCarroll, 21, of 209 Market St., Tamaqua. McCarroll told the officer another vehicle had struck hers and she was injured. EMS was dispatched. A strong odor of alcohol was detected and a six pack of beer was found on the front floor of the car.

McCarroll was transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for treatment. A blood sample was taken indicating a positive blood alcohol content. It registered .17 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
