Driver cited in Nesquehoning
A Lehighton man was cited following a mishap in Nesquehoning. Police Chief Sean Smith said the accident occurred about 3:40 p.m. on Jan. 21 along School St., between High and Railroad sts.
A 1986 Ford Bronco, owned by Matthew B. Stahler, 24, of 130 Mauch Chunk St., Lehighton, with a plow attached, ran into the rear of a parked 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt owned by Kathleen Arner, 101 W. Railroad St., Nesquehoning.
Upon arrival Stahler told Smith he was in the back of his vehicle when it slipped out of gear and struck the rear of the Arner vehicle. He then got into the drivers' seat and backed it up to observe the damage.
Stahler produced his driver's license and vehicle registration but not his insurance card. He was given a chance to produce it and called his insurance carrier from his sister's home nearby. He returned and told Smith his insurance had expired.
Smith cited Stahler for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility. The Ford was towed from the scene as Stahler was not allowed to operate it, and Smith seized the license plate and returned it to PennDOT as required by law.
