Schuylkill teen facing DUI count

A Schuylkill County teen is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred early today.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Helene Catherine Jones, 19, of Pottsville, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on Pottsville St., in Port Carbon, when she reached for her cellular phone. She drove off the road and struck several trash cans and then a pole head-on.

Jones was not injured but showed signs of intoxication, troopers said. She was taken for a blood test.

The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.
