Monroe man cited for drunkenness

A Monroe County man was cited for public drunkenness following an incident about 2:29 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15.

Pocono Mountain Regional police officers observed a vehicle parked on a lot outside the VFW building off SR196 in Tobyhanna at the time and date stated. Officers approached the vehicle and found the engine running and in park and the driver passed out behind the wheel.

The driver was identified as Alvin Dawson, 56, of Tobyhanna. He was found to be extremely intoxicated and was taken from the vehicle for his own safetey. He was transported home and released. He was cited, police said.

Dawson told officers he was at another bar and attempted to drive home but knew he was too drunk so he pulled over at the VFW building and fell asleep.
