Mayor urges residents to keep doors locked

Published January 20. 2010 05:00PM

Lansford residents are urged to keep their doors locked and report any suspicious activity in the wake of what Mayor Ron Hood described as a wave of burglaries breaking over the borough.

Hood spoke at a public council meeting Tuesday, giving crime statistics and warnings.

So far this month, there have been 10 burglaries in the borough. They include break-ins at four businesses and eight homes.

In one of the burglaries, a handgun was stolen.

The crime wave also has touched neighboring Summit Hill.

Hood warned residents to call 911 if they see or hear anything suspicious. Council president Bob Gaughan also suggested residents keep their porch lights on at night to discourage prowlers.

This month has also seen six thefts, four drug investigations and six cases of vandalism, Hood said.
