Panther Vy. rolls over Miners

Panther Valley rolled to an easy boys basketball victory over Minersville on Thursday.

In other scholastic sports action, Northern Lehigh and Northwestern both picked up wrestling victories and Tamaqua swept a swim meet.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Minersville-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley outscored Minersville in every quarter and went on to win easily, 60-27.

Brock Mitchell led Panther Valley (10-5) with a game-high 18 points. Fellow Panthers Zach Stanko, Kyle Picht and Logan Stano each added eight.

Panther Valley won the JV game as well, 48-43.

Southern Lehigh held off Lehighton in a non-league battle, winning 74-65.

Justin Festa and Ramfis Rodriguez led the Spartans with 19 points apiece. Teammate Aric Leddy added 18.

The Indians converted on 11 three-pointers on the night. With that, JT Keer (18), Tyler Hill (17) and DJ Rossino (15) all scored in double figures.

Southern Lehigh also won the JV game, 47-35.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Lourdes

Lourdes jumped out to an early lead and went on to defeat Marian, 63-48, in Schuylkill League action.

Christina Perles had 14 points as the Red Raiders (12-1, 7-0) remained unbeaten in league play.

For Marian (9-5, 5-3), Kaysi McLaughlin led the way with 11 points. Angela Bellezza added 10. The Fillies played without starting center Gillian Ferko, who missed the game with an injury.

The Northern Lehigh matmen handled Palisades with ease, as the Bulldogs won their Colonial League match 63-6.

The quickest pin for Northern Lehigh came from Dylan Hoffman, who pinned Palisades' Joe Campbell in 1:19.

SWIMMING

Tamaqua-Shamokin

Tamaqua swept in its Schuylkill League swim meet on Thursday, beating Shamokin 121-64 on the girls' side and 118-68 on the boys' side.

Caroline Kanaskie and Schuyler Schmidt each won two events for the Lady Raiders (10-2, 5-1). Kanaskie won the 100 and 200 Free races, while Schmidt took the 100 Fly and 200 IM. The ladies also won all three relay events.

On the boys' side, it was Dane DeWire and Ben Tuckett winning two events. DeWire placed first in both the 200 and 500 Free races. Tuckett finished first in the 100 Back and the 200 IM. Just like the girls, the boys won all three relay events as well.

The boys are now 10-2 (6-0).

Tamaqua's defense led the way in a 47-8 win over St. Clair.

Zachary Wargula tossed in 15 points to lead the Raiders. Tyler Skripko added 10 points.
