No parking on Polk Township roads
Two new ordinances were adopted at the Polk Township Supervisors meeting with a 3-0 vote: a no parking on township roads and the allowance of an additional dwelling unit for the care of a family member, under special circumstances.
The latter was the subject of a duly advertised public hearing immediately preceding the regularly scheduled supervisor' meeting and the former includes a $50 fine for those who disobey the ordinance.
Approved 3-0 were two time extensions of 90 days for minor subdivisions: the Paul W. Geer minor subdivision and the Vernon L. Frable minor subdivision.
In addition, the minor subdivision of Louis and Carol Herfurth was approved with conditions, as recommended by the township Planning Commission.
The proposed fee schedule for 2010 also received a 3-0 vote by the board.
Tabled were giving an endorsement of the proposed "Kittatinny-Shawangunk National Raptor Migration Corridor," and the purchase of an above ground fuel tank for diesel with at least a 1,000 gallon capacity.
In regard to the corridor endorsement, the supervisors want to look at a web site to become more informed. As it pertains to the fuel tank, costs have to be checked, a site needs to be located on township property, and the various types of tanks will be considered, although township engineer Russ Kresge suggested a double-wall steel tank at minimum.
It was announced that PPL had sent a letter regarding the proposed power line in the Effort/Jonas/ Sun Valley area of northeast Pennsylvania and that the company has adjusted the line.
"The new route has been moved more than 600 feet from Birch Hollow Estates." Originally it came to within 25 feet of several property lines in the development.
Citing the support of the Pocono Heritage Land Trust, local property owners and state Rep. Mike Carroll, PPL says the change was to "satisfy many property owner concerns and increase the amount of preserved land in the area of the line."

"Taking a look," is what the Township will do in regard to an ongoing request from the fire company for a place to cut apart cars during drill times or public events. The fire company Chief also asked for continued help with setting up a dry hydrant near the stream that flows through township and personal, or resident's, property.
He noted that they must work with another property owner and explained by the mandates have been passed that the fire company radios must be switched to a narrow band. The cost will be "megabucks," probably over $100,000.
Codes and Zoning officer Gerald Zurat gave his report and received permission to file charges against three parties not responding to suggested corrective actions.
