Wreckers fail to make Districts

Tri-Valley's seventh inning rally to beat Weatherly highlighted Thursday's scholastic sports schedule. The loss prevent the Wreckers from qualifying for the District 11 softball playoffs.

BASEBALL

Tri-Valley-Weatherly

Tri-Valley plated 11 runs in the fourth inning to run away with a 14-2 Schuylkill League Division II win over Weatherly.

The Bulldogs' Travis Hinel finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Matt McGinley was 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI.

Keith Barna paced the Wreckers with a 2-for-2 day. Barna ended up with two singles, a run scored and a RBI.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Pine Grove's Ryan Boyer had 14 strikeouts on his way to a complete game one-hitter for a 3-1 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

John Cataldo was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals. He was a homerun shy of the cycle as he plated one run for the victors.

Mike Streisel spoiled what could have been a no-hitter for Boyer with a bases loaded RBI single in the fourth inning.

Tamaqua slips to 6-12 overall and 4-9 in the SL.

Lehighton-PM West

Pocono Mountain West escaped with a 2-1 Mountain Valley Conference win over visiting Lehighton.

Lehighton could only muster a Tyler Hill RBI-single to score JT Keer, who singled to reach base in the fifth inning.

The Indians' Nic Storm led all hitters with a 2-for-3 performance, which included two singles.

The Panthers were paced by Bryan Boesenburg (double) and Frankie Argentieri (RBI double).

Lehighton slips to 14-6 overall (8-4 MVC), while PM West jumps to 8-10 (8-3 MVC).

Blue Mt.-Panther Vy.

Blue Mountain used the long ball to jump out to a 7-0 lead after just two innings and coasted to an 8-1 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over Panther Valley.

The loss drops the Panthers to 10-9 on the season.

Panther Valley walked the first three batters of the game and Frank Gaffney followed with a grand slam over the left field fence to put the Eagles on top 4-0. Jake Cryts added a three-run homer (following a walk and a single) to open the second frame.

The Panthers pitching staff combined to issue 12 walks in the contest.

Panther Valley's lone run came in the fifth inning courtesy of a Brandon Gurka RBI single.

Catasauqua cruised past Northwestern for a 13-6 Colonial League victory.

Steve Yost led the Roughies' attack with a 3-for-4 performance, which included a solo home run in the third inning. Teammate Tommy Armellino got Catty's offensive going with a two-run blast in the opening inning.

Northwestern's Peyton Bachman went yard himself with a solo home run in the sixth. Meanwhile, Bachman led the Tigers with a single, homerun, a run scored and a RBI.

NW's Billy Moyer chipped in with a single, double and a RBI, while Adam Wehr connect for another dinger on the season with a two-run blast in the third.

Northwestern slips to 11-9 overall (9-7 CL), while Catty moves to 10-10 (8-8 CL).

Pleasant Valley broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to cruise to a 8-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain East.

Derrik Walling led the Bears with a 2-for-3 performance with two singles, two runs scored, an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Drew Borger followed with two singles, two RBIs and a RBI.

PV's Jake Chamberlain chipped in with a single and three RBIs.

The Bears' Xavier Hammond, who earned the pitching victory, Jimmy Beidleman and Jake Chamberlain all combined to toss a four-hit shutout from the mound.

Northern Lehigh clinched the Colonial League West Division with a 8-3 league victory over Palmerton.

Jocelyn Rodriguez paced the Bulldogs with two singles, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, while Kristi Seiler added two triples, a single, two runs scored and a RBI.

NL's Erika Bowman chipped with a triple, single, two runs scored and a RBI, while Kayla Toth finished with two singles and a RBI.

Liz Raub finished as the Bombers' top hitter with two singles, a run scored and a RBI. Teammate Sierra Miller recorded a single and a run scored.

Northern Lehigh improves to 14-6 overall and 11-5 in the CL.

Schuylkill Haven's Emily Gerhard fired a no-hitter over four innings as the Hurricanes blanked Jim Thorpe,15-0.

The loss drops Jim Thorpe to 2-16 on the year.

Tori Lord had two hits and three RBI to pace Schuylkill Haven while Gerhard struck out eight in her first game back from injury.

Weatherly let the lead and a District playoff berth slip away in the seventh inning as Tri-Valley rallied from a 3-2 deficit by scoring seven runs in the top of the frame for a 9-3 Schuylkill League Division 2 victory.

The Wreckers finish the season with a record of 9-11 (6-10).

For Weatherly, Sarah Dolinsky contributed two singles.

Pine Grove scored seven runs in the second inning to post an 8-0 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over Tamaqua.

The Cardinals had just three singls in the second frame, but were aided by four walks and two Tamaqua errors.

Karissa Reeves poked a solo home run to close out the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Hope Spancake struck out 12 Raiders in the win.

Lehighton took advantage of 12 walks and some timely hitting, as the Lady Indians rolled to a 13-4 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Emily Kollar and Kristen Breiner both had doubles for Lehighton. Julieann Evans struck out five in picking up the win.

Brittney Allivato had a double for Pocono Mountain West.

Blue Mountain scored two runs in the top of the first inning and held the lead for the rest of the game as the Eagles took home a 4-2 Schuylkill League Division 1 victory over Panther Valley.

Catasauqua jumped on Northwestern early by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, en route to a 6-2 Colonial League victory.

Erika Proctor had three hits, two runs and two RBI to lead Catasauqua, while Nicole Kern added two hits and two RBI.

For Northwestern, Jackie Wear led the way with two hits.

PM East-Pleasant Vy.

Pocono Mountain East scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull off a 5-1 Mountain Valley Conference upset victoy over Pleasant Valley.

The wins moves the Cardinals to 13-6 (7-4), while the Bears fall to 16-3 (8-3).

Danielle Palmisano put Pocono Mountain East on the scoreboard with a triple in the fourth inning. Amber Woodling and Caitlyn Boylan combined for four of the Cardinals' five hits in the extra inning affair.

Jordan Borger had two hits to lead Pleasant Valley. Meagan Fitzgerald struck out 15 in the loss.

Lehighton jumped out in the early going and never looked back to score a 6-2 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Darren Wanamaker finished as the Indians' lone multiple hitter with two singles and a RBI. Steve Shanton added a double and two RBIs.

The Indians' Josh Kern recorded the win on the mound.

JV SOFTBALL

PM West-Lehighton

Lehighton scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to punctuate a 17-4 victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Brooke Lucykanish went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to pace Lehighton (13-6), while Samantha Locher (two hits, three runs) and Sarah Kemp (two hits, two runs) also contributed in the victory.
