Penn State Glee Club to perform at Pleasant Valley High School

The Penn State Glee Club will present a concert at Pleasant Valley High School on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. in the new auditorium.

Founded in 1888, the Pennsylvania State University Glee Club, a seventy-five voice men's choir, has performed across the United States and around the world, and will undertake a national tour of New Zealand in May 2010. The Glee Club has appeared at state and divisional conventions of the Music Educators National Conference and just a week after this concert they will perform as just one of two selected collegiate men's choirs at a prestigious convention for the American Choral Directors Association attended by more than 800 choral directors from the eastern states. The oldest student organization at Penn State, the Glee Club's members hail from all colleges and schools on the University Park campus.

The concert will include rousing works for men by American composers Ron Nelson and Theodore Morrison, a beautiful setting of "Dona nobis pacem" by Joseph Gregorio, and "Zikr" an Islamic chant from the soundtrack to the A. R. Rahman movie "Bose: The Forgotten Hero" by Ethan Sperry and Gospel style "Walk in Jerusalem" arranged by Paul Rardin. There will be a number of Penn State songs as well as an appearance by the Hi-Lo's, a high-energy and entertaining 16-voice group. As usual, Glee Club alumni will be invited to the stage to sing the Penn State fight songs at the conclusion of the program. The Glee Club is directed by Dr. Christopher Kiver.
