Minor injury in Schuylkill crash
One driver was slightly injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 5:11 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, at the intersection of SR61 and SR183, in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill County. The crash was one of two investigated by state police at Schuylkill Haven, including a hit and run.
Troopers said Alvaret C. Crosby, 49, of Auburn, was turning left off of SR183 onto 61 in a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier while James G. Hochgertel, 81, of Schuylkill Haven, was southbound on 183 coming out of the jug handle in a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Troopers said Crosby attempted to turn on a yellow indicator light and failed to yield the right-of-way to Hochgertel and a collision occurred.
Crosby was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, for treatment of what troopers called a minor injury. Hochgertel was not injured. The Cavalier was towed from the scene. Troopers cited Crosby for vehicle turning left.
The hit and run was reported along S. Second St., in Cressona, on Thursday about 6:36 a.m. Troopers said a vehicle was driven eastbound and traveled too closely to parked vehicles and struck a parked GMC Suburban on the passenger side front quarter panel. The driver then fled the scene.
