Lane closures on turnpike
Drivers who travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Lehigh Tunnel and the Mahoning Valley exit should be prepared for lane closures until 3:30 p. m. today.
Crews are conducting a bidirectional mobile traffic pattern to perform roadwork in all lanes between mileposts A73-A75 starting northbound at the tunnel. Drivers should stay alert for slow moving or stopped traffic when approaching and entering the work zone.
The work is related to the turnpike commission's $101,558,000 project to replace two bridges with four new spans over the Lehigh River and Pohopoco Creek, about two miles north of the tunnel in Franklin, East Penn and Mahoning townships and Parryville Borough. Work is close to completion on the northern abutments for the spans adjacent to Route 248.
Work on the entire project started in December and is expected to finish in November 2012.
