Putting snow back on plowed streets in Weissport illegal

Weissport Council emphasized during their Tuesday meeting that anyone caught shoveling snow back onto a borough street after the snow was plowed will be cited.

Council brought up the problem as a major issue because of the bumpy road surface in the first block of White Street.

"That was caused by people putting snow on the road after it was plowed," said Arland Moyer. "It freezes and it is hard on borough equipment."

Several residents had attended the meeting to complain about the roads during the recent snow storms.

Former mayor Tina Hagenbuch said that the road crew could benefit from training sessions that are offered by PSAB (Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs).

Hagenbuch suggested that the town needs better snow removal routes.

Tim Rehrig, council president, accepted her suggestion and said, "We're all in this together. If you know of information that will help us, we will listen. We will take your advice."

Mayor Jonathan Troutman reported that on the issue with St. Paul's Church. He said that the borough will order church parking signs and the church has agreed to pay for them. The signs will allow for temporary church parking from 9 a.m. to noon.

Officer Steven Mansueto asked if the parking signs can be enforced.

Troutman said that the signs will not be enforced but that it is a courtesy only.

Council also voted to sell the 1988 blue dump truck for a minimum bid of $1,500 and the unmarked 1998 Crown Victoria police car for a minimum bid of $1,200. The vehicles can be inspected from 10 a.m. to noon on Feb. 26, March 5 and March 12. Bids will be accepted until 6:30 p.m. March 15. The bids will be awarded at the March 15 meeting.
