Bears, Tribe lose

Lehighton and Pleasant Valley both suffered girls basketball setbacks on Friday.

In a boys game, East Stroudsburg South defeated Lehighton, 76-66. No other information on that game was received by the TIMES NEWS.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ES South-Lehighton

Carly Gallagher scored 23 points to lead East Stroudsburg South to a 43-33 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Lehighton.

The victory keeps the Cavaliers unbeaten in conference play and also prevents the Indians from securing a District 11 playoff berth.

Lehighton (5-6 MVC, 9-10 overall) was led by Vanessa Rimbey's eight points. Despite the setback, the Indians still have three ways to reach Districts. They must either win their MVC finale against Pocono Mountain West; beat both Tamaqua and Tri-Valley in non-league games; or qualify for the MVC playoffs and then win the league championship to gain the automatic berth that goes with it.

East Stroudsburg South won the JV game, 34-25.

Pleasant Vy.-PM West

Pocono Mountain West used a balanced attack to beat Pleasant Valley, 47-40, in Mountain Valley Conference action.

The loss eliminates the Bears (3-8 league; 5-15 overall) from District 11 playoff contention.

Katie Schickling and Tanisha Blake scored nine points apiece for the Panthers.

Megan Hardy and Kasey Meckes scored 16 and 12 points respectively for Pleasant Valley.
