Illegal immigrants caught in Lansford

Published March 12. 2010 05:00PM

Lansford police nabbed three illegal immigrants on Wednesday. Officer Chris Ondrus said that borough Officer Jeff Ohl and Officer Scott Cramer of Coaldale stopped a vehicle at about 1:15 a.m. near the Turkey Hill Minit Mart on SR209.

The vehicle was being driven erratically, all over the roadway and almost striking numerous cars, Ondrus said. The driver was identified as Geremias Velazquez- Roblero. He spoke little English and had no valid driver's license. He was taken to his home at 10 W. Ridge St. to get identification, and it turned out he was an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

While the officers were inside the residence they found two other men - Ricardo Antonio Garcia-Ordonez, who was hiding in a bedroom, and his brother, Jose Alberto Garcia-Ordonez, who was hiding in a closet. They were illegal immigrants from Guatemala.

Police contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The men were taken to Carbon County Prison to await deportation.

Police said one of the men told them he was deported last year, and came back.
