Fishing derby
The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its Second Annual Fishing Derby on April 10 at the Rabbit Run Reservoir. Hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. prizes will be awarded in adult and child categories for the most total weight of fish caught.
Pre-registrations are now being accepted at the chamber office, 114 W. Broad St., and at Tom's Auto and Marine, Greenwood Street and Mountain Avenue.

TOPS
The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.
Linda Hosler was named TOPS Loser of the Week at the March 10 meeting and provided an inspirational reading entitled "Courage." Leader Bernie Kunkel presented a program on ways to spice up meetings. Members discussed the upcoming State Recognition Days, which are scheduled to be held April 23-24 in Wilkes-Barre.

Recycling
Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.
All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.
Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.
Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.
Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
SS. Peter and Paul
Stations of the Cross will be held on Wednesday, at 7 p.m., in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Also on Wednesday, the choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
Community service
This week's Community Lenten Service, sponsored by the Tamaqua Ministerium, will be held at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. The service will begin at noon and will be followed by a light luncheon.
The public is welcome to attend.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero, pastor at First United Methodist Church, is serving as guest chaplain at the Pennsylvania State Senate, Harrisburg, today.
A Bible study class on the "Parables of Jesus," will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. Also on Wednesday, the Senior Choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
First UM will be sponsoring the annual Tamaqua Panther Valley Welsh Songfest, which is scheduled to be held on April 25.
The quilters meet every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
This Sunday, Pastor Cavallero will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service at Salem UM Church and at the 11:35 a.m. service at First UM Church.
