Pleasant Valley School Board approves purchase of new vehicle for security department
The Pleasant Valley School District's board of directors voted to rescind approval for the purchase of a 2010 Ford Escape, 4-wheel drive, four door, XLT for the security department at $21,885.10, pricing from Pennsylvania CO-STARS contract which is no longer available. They then approved the purchase of said vehicle at a purchase price not to exceed $23,500, from the PA Co-STARS contract.
The board gave approval of two policy revisions, one concerning safety and the other on fundraising. The board, with all present except Harvey Frable, approved the one on safety unanimously. The policy on fundraising was approved with one "No" vote from James Spinola.
The board approved items reported by Chris Fisher, assistant to the superintendent for Professional and Support Services with James Spinola voting "No" on the Dual Enrollment Agreement with Northampton County Community College and East Stroudsburg University for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The board approved the hiring of Carlos Barrios as a substitute monitor and granted tenure to PVI's Colleen Yacovelli.
The board approved the resignation of Lisa Hernandez, a PVE monitor, effective Feb. 12, 2010
The board granted approval for Candice Sierzega from East Stroudsburg University to serve an unpaid guidance internship effective Feb. 1 to the end of the 2009-2010 school year and William Staples from ESU to serve an unpaid administrative internship, effective for the 2nd semester of the 2009-2010 school year.
Resignation of Derek Strohl as the JV Girls' Soccer assistant coach was accepted.
Derek Strohl was named Varsity Girls' Soccer's assistant coach and Jim Shoopack as JV Girls' Soccer assistant coach. Shawn Jones has been named 2009-2010 spring volunteer coach for junior high softball.
Under business management, the following were approved: Invoices for payment from the Bond Funds-2006 Bond Fund of $3,750 to Degler-Whiting, Inc. and 2004 Bond Fund of $12,008 to the Pro Max Fence Systems, Inc.; $1,711.06 from the General Fund to the Student Activity Fund for the high school drama musical; Change Order for Marx Sheet Metal and Mechanical Inc. for Chiller Piping Modifications and provide ATC controls for Kitchen SE-1 Unit for $16,695.
The following contracts were approved: $535 to Music Theater International for production of: "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior" for license, royalty materials and shipping to be performed at PVMS May 7, 8; $3,105 renewal to Ehrlich-Vegetation Management Services for various locations throughout the district and for guard rails at PVE and PVI, bus garage, PVI, Eldred, Polk and PVE at no increase from last year; field trips for PVE to Quiet Valley Historical Farm May 10, 19, 24; PVHS will conduct a Gertrude Hawk Chocolates sale between Feb. 8-22; Mix Master Disc Jockeys will play for the PVHS Class of 2012's Sweetheart's Dance on Feb. 19 at $325.
The board approved the proposal of Assurant Employee Benefits for Group Term Life Insurance coverage provided through Pennsylvania School Board Association as recommended by the Northampton, Monroe and Pike counties Joint Purchasing Board (Life Insurance Consortium) for a five-year term beginning March 1, 2010 and ending Feb. 28, 2015 at a monthly rate of $.074 per $1,000 of coverage which represents a 27 percent savings over the current rate of $.101 per $1,000 coverage.
