Crashes in Schuylkill
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating two crashes along Schuylkill County roads on Wednesday, in one of which the driver will be cited.
A crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. along Birds Hill Road, in Pine Grove Township. Troopers said Samantha K. Brosius, 24, of Pine Grove, was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee eastbound and attempting to negotiate a left curve. Troopers said Brosius was traveling too fast for the snow-covered conditions of the road, and lost control. The Jeep left the road and traveled through a yard and some brush, prior to colliding head-on into a tree.
After impact with the tree, the Jeep was backed up onto the road and driven west on Birds Hill Road to Berger Road. After parking the vehicle, Brosius fled the scene and went home.
Troopers later located her. She will be charged with driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed, troopers said.
The second crash occurred about 7:54 a.m. along Rock Road, in Washington Township. Troopers said Michael H. Zenz, 31, of Fredericksburg, Lebanon County, was driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup eastbound on the slush-covered road and negotiating a curve. The back end of the truck began to slid on the slush causing Zenz to lose control. The truck began to turn counter-clockwise and traveled along the berm before impacting with a utility pole with the passenger side.
Zenz was not injured.
A 2-year-old female in a child safety seat was transported to the Hershey Medical Center as a precautionary measure, due to a prior medical condition, troopers said.
