Crashes probed

State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers in recent days.

A two-vehicle accident was reported about 12:49 p.m. on Feb. 14 along Blue Mountain Drive in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Nithin Surendran, 29, of Lawrence, Kan., was southbound in a 1995 Toyota Avalon XLS while Eric P. Peterson, 18, of Mantua, N.J., was northbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. Troopers said Surendran attempted to make a left turn onto Blue Mountain Trail and pulled into the path of Peterson and a collision occurred. After impact the Toyota rotated 90-degrees clockwise and went onto the east berm and came to rest. The Chevrolet continued to travel north across the southbound lane and onto the berm striking a snow bank. No one was injured.

Troopers cited Surendran for roadways laned for traffic.

A one-vehicle crash occurred about 8:05 a.m. on Feb. 19 along SR903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Matthew D. Horan, 18, of Lake Harmony, and Mary K. Kibler, 56, of Albrightsville, were both southbound. Kibler began to slow down for traffic turning left onto Maury Road when her 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe was struck in the rear by Horan's 1997 Ford Taurus.

Horan and passengers April M. Maimon, 17, Albrightsville, and Stephen D. Kurus, 15, of Lake Harmony, and Kibler were all not injured.

Troopers probed a crash about 4:15 p.m. along Church Road, in Eldred Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Jennifer L. Bowens, 19, of Saylorsburg, was southbound and Dora D. Tartar, 59, of Kunkletown, was northbound. Both vehicles were in a curve when Bowens under-compensated and entered the northbound lane where her 2002 Dodge Neon struck Tartar's 2002 Jeep Cherokee.

Both drivers were not injured but damages were termed heavy to both vehicles.

Troopers cited Bowens for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, along SR115 in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Shamim A. Colon, 42, of Saylorsburg, and Paul A. Debarry, 51, also of Saylorsburg, were both southbound. Colon attempted to turn right onto Anchorage Road and his 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was struck in the rear by Debarry's 2007 Nissan Altima.

Colon and passenger, Joshua J. Colon, 7, of Saylorsburg, and Debarry were all not injured.

Troopers cited Colon for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.

A one-vehicle crash occurred about 9:12 p.m. on Feb. 15 along SR209 in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Robert M. Mills, 58, of Stroudsburg, was northbound in a 2008 Pontiac Grand Am when he applied his brakes and the vehicle went into a fishtail due to ice and snow on the road. Mills lost control and the Grand Am slid off the road and flipped over onto its roof.

Mills was not injured.

A hit-and-run accident was reported at the Blue Mountain Ski lodge, in Lower Towamensing Township, on Feb. 15. A parked 2000 Subaru Impreza, was damaged when struck by another vehicle whose driver fled the scene. The incident occurred sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. in the lower parking lot, troopers said.
