March 3, 1979 Suzanne Shimkus tallies a game-high 17 points to help the Marian girls cruise to a 48-24 victory over Palmerton in the quarterfinal round of the District 11 Class AA playoffs. Lenore Shimkus also tallies 15 points for the winners, coached by Elsie Tolan. Kate Delhagen adds 13 points, nine of them coming in a second quarter where the Fillies outscore the Bombers 11-2. Palmerton receives a team-high eight points from Lori Weaver.
