Knee-hi meeting
Next Panther Valley Knee-Hi meeting will be Tuesday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. at The Sports Zoo in Lansford.
Midweek service
The midweek Lenten service for the Lutheran community of the Panther Valley will be held tonight in St. John Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford. The evening will begin with a light supper of soup and sandwiches at 6 o'clock, followed by the worship at 7 o'clock.
The Rev. John F. Hazel Jr., pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, and Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning, will speak on the "Apostles' Creed."
Summit Hill
Lions meeting
Several matters were discussed by the Summit Hill Lions Club during its recent meeting.
The group heard a speaker from the U.S. Census Bureau, who stressed the importance of having an accurate census. Handouts were distributed for anyone interested in the program. Interested parties can also call 1-866-861-2010 for additional information.
The club is participating in a cell phone recycling program, in which money is received for the phones. Anyone having old phones can contact member Janel Tirpak.
The Lions will participate in the annual telethon of the Carbon-Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society that will be held next month. They will be answering telephones from 8-10 p.m. Sunday, April 11, to take pledges. Judy Midas is coordinating the volunteer list. Members interested should contact her at mido@ptd.net.
Welcomed as a new member was Anne Sverchek.
The club is also planning a trip to an upcoming Iron Pigs baseball game in Allentown.
The Lions will meet again on Tuesday, March 23, at 7 p.m. at the St. Gabriel's Italian Club. Summit Hill Police Chief Joseph Fittos will be the guest speaker.

Anthracite League
The new Anthracite Little League, a combined effort of the Summit Hill and Nesquehoning group, will meet on Sunday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Summit Hill Borough Building. Election of an entire board will take place and preparations for the season will be furthered.

Scripture sharing
The weekly scripture sharing sessions at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will resume on Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in the church hall.
Coaldale
Lions
The Coaldale Lions will meet on Tuesday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 23 at The Viennese Villa in town.
Both meetings will begin at 5:45 p.m. All members are urged to attend. President Robert Ames will preside.
