Important committee positions up for election in May primary

One of the least known contests but very crucial to the two major political parties is the election of committee people for the 125 voting precincts in Schuylkill County which will take place at the Primary Election on May 18.

Because of the reduction of the number of voting districts from 168 to 125, which goes into affect this year as ordered by the Schuylkill County court, has created a contests for committee persons caused by consolidation and elimination of districts. The Republican Party has contests in eight districts and the Democrats in two.

The Republican Party contests are as follows:

West Penn Township, Precinct One, between Francis E. Adams and Jonathan D. Coles. The Republican Party elects two alternates for each precinct or district. West Penn Township, Precinct One has only one alternate listed on ballot, Antoinette Triano.

West Penn Township, Precinct Two, the contest is between Ron Ziegler and Gayle Zanders. Linda A. Rice is listed as the lone alternate

West Brunswick Township, South District, the contest is between Michael D. Zellner Jr. and William P. Bolich. There are no alternate delegates.

West Brunswick Township, North District, the contest is between Jim Turner and William S. Ladue. There are no alternate candidates.

Port Carbon Borough, Second Precinct, the contest is between Ronald Lickman and Thomas E. Crochunis. Laura Crochunis is the only alternate.

Frackville, Middle Precinct, the contest is between Bradly Gotshall and Brian Dillman. No alternates listed.

Deer Lake, the contest is between Gloria Bercher and Joseph D. Sterns. The lone alternate is Beverly Schneider.

Ashland, First Precinct, the contest is between Warren Nick Lane and James Doughlas Eisenhart Jr. The lone alternate is Patrick J. Cooney.

In other area precincts and districts there are no contests.

Coaldale, East Precinct, Lawrence H. Fritzinger is the commitee candidate and Robert E. Ames, lone alternate.

Coaldale, West Precinct, Thomas D. Keerans is the committee candidate. No alternates filed.

Delano Township, Daniel Pascavage is the committee candidate. No alternates filed.

Kline Township, Nicholas Sanko is the committee candidate. No alternates filed.

McAdoo, First Precinct, Mary A. Labert, committee candidate, and William J. Slovik and Edward J. Bielen Sr., alternates.

McAdoo, Second Precinct, Brian E. Kolbush, committee candidate and Dane Watro and Adolph J. Slovik, alternates.

New Ringold, Larry Padro, committee candidates, no alternates filed.

Rush Township, East District, Christine L. Jones, committee candidate, no alternates.

Rush Township, Elixir District, Marc A. Pacchiolo, committee candidate, no alternates.

Ryan Township, Franklin R. Fetter, committee candidate; Helen M. Schrepple and JoAnn Zogby, alternates.

Schuylkill Township, John A. Weegar, committee candidate, no alternates.

Tamaqua, First Precinct, Maria Montero Hoppes, committee candidate, no alternates.

Tamaqua, Third Precinct, Steve Goroshko, committee candidate, no alternates.

Walker Township, Peggy E. Zimmerman, committee candidates; Grace Ann Gerber and Bill McMullen, alternates.

West Penn Township, Third Precinct, Don Handwerk, committee candidates; Randy Troxell, lone alternate.

Democrats

There are two contests for committee person. The Democratic Party does not elect alternates.

Blythe Township, the contest for committee person is between Albert J. Lubinsky and Julianne Kupchinsky.

East Norwegian Township, the contest is between Cynthia Symons and Mike Quercia Sr.

In other area precincts and districts there are no contests.

Coaldale, West Precinct, Joseph Hnat is the candidate for committee person.

East Union Township, George D. Andrews.

Middleport, Mary Ann Baddick.

New Philadelphia, Douglas Nawrocki.

New Ringgold, John Belsak.

Schuylkill Township, Linda M. DeCindio.

Important dates

Candidates are reminded Wednesday, March 24, is the last day for withdrawal by candidates who filed nomination petitions. Monday, April 19, is last day to register to be eligible to vote in the primary election; Tuesday, May 11, is the last day to apply for civilian absentee ballot and Friday, May 14, is last day for the county board of election to receive civilian absentee ballot. The Primary Election is on Tuesday, May 18.

This year's primary election is for the nomination on both the Repuiblican and Democratic ballots candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. Senator, U.S. Congress, representatives from three state legislative districts and state and local committee people.

Fill vacancies

President Judge William E. Baldwin will sit in Courtroom Number four Friday at 9 a.m. to fill vacanies on local election boards for positions of judge of elections and inspector of elections. People willing to serve still have time to sent in their letters in care of Judge Baldwin, Courthouse, Pottsville, Pa. l7901., or come to the courthouse. In the letters they should list the precinct and party which they are registered.
