PV acknowledges MCTI students that placed in Skills USA competition
At the Pleasant Valley School District's school board meeting on March 4, congratulations were offered to the MCTI students on their awards at the Skills USA competition and will go on to compete in the state competition in Hershey. 1st place: Megan Ewerr, Nicole Cook, Marrisa Ziev and Michelle Holzmann in the Quiz Bowl; Brad Livezy, Residential Wiring; Josh Hoffner, Job Demonstration Open; Alex D'Antonio and Sarah Kobal, Entrepreneurial. 2nd place: Tyler Mull, Internetworking; Eric Caulfield, Computer Maintenance; Matt Johnson, Automated Manufacturing. 3rd place: Jessica Ramos, Nursing Assistant; Darnell McQuiller, Automotive Refinishing.
Congratulations to Wilson Wong for placing 5th out of 94 students in the MVC Chess Tournament Championship held at PVHS on Feb. 17.
PVHS will present the musical "Grease" on March 26, 27, 28.
In other business, the board approved with directors Charles Hoffman and Tom Murphy absent:
*hiring substitute teachers Deena Baskin, English; Tyler Bunnelle, Health and Physical Education; Melissa Breitfeller, Elementary; Rhianna Kneebone, Social Studies; Victor Golat, Social Studies.
*Carrie Poskitt was recommended to continue as a long-term substitute reading kindergarten teacher at Eldred/Polk Elementary schools
*Suzanne Bongiovanni and Carla Howell hired as substitute paraprofessional associates; Nathan Michaels as substitute custodian/courier
*accepted the resignation of Jessica Pedersen, a part-time paraprofessional associate at Polk Elementary, effective Feb. 3, 2010; Kathleen Biro, part-time cafeteria worker, effective Feb. 26, 2010; Chris D. Pfancook, security officer, effective Feb. 9, 2010; Georgia Umstead, middle school paraprofessional associate, effective Feb. 19, 2010.
*Terry Hunter, security sergeant will retire April 30, 2010.
The board also approved:
*Cafeteria accounts payable for January 2010 of $170,796.04 and bills payable for January 2010 of $104,307.89
*The Student Activity Accounts beginning balance as of Dec. 1, 2009 was $251,380.60 with receipts of $19,414.34 and Expenditures of $10,398.38 for an Ending Balance as of Dec. 31, 2009 of $260,396.56.
* the agreement between PVSD and Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 for special education services for the 2009-2010 school year estimated at $2,006,968.12. The final reconciliation of the charges to be made by August 2010.
*to contract with Public Financial Management, Inc. to purchase a Budget Planning Model at a cost of $2,500 for the 2009-10 year and $6,000 annually for the next three years.
*the 2010-2011 Monroe Career and Technical Institute budget is recommended and PV's share will be $2,059,696.
*the Technical Service Support Agreement with Physico-Control, Inc. for 13 district Automated Electronic Defibrillators (AED) as listed in the agreement with a term of three years at a cost of $3,994 per year. This is a renewal with no increase in cost.
*to purchase a baseball backstop from George Ely Associates, Carlisle, PA at a cost of $29,289 on Costars state contract #014-011 to be installed at the Varsity Baseball Field located between the bus compound and stadium.
*to advertise for sealed bids for labor to install the baseball backstop
*acquire a mechanical Mezzanine floor coating at the PVMS at a cost not to exceed $7,000.
