Poster Contest

The Palmerton Area Historical Society is celebrating its 20th birthday.

The society is sponsoring a poster contest to give students in grades 9-12 residing in the Palmerton Area School District an opportunity to design a poster, which will advertise the 20th birthday celebration of the Palmerton Area Historical Society.

According to the guidelines, contest entries must be received by Feb. 25 at the Palmerton Area Heritage Center. The poster size must by 11 inches by 17 inches and the student's name, age, address, and phone number (e-mail if available) should be written on the back of the poster. The poster may include images, text, or other graphic and artistic elements, and will advertise Palmerton Area Historical Society's 20th birthday celebration.

Students should create a simple poster that illustrates both the overall theme of the contest, and somewhere on the poster include the following specific information: "To kick-off the 20th Birthday Celebration, there will be a Founders' Day Tea Party on March 21 (Sunday) from 2-4 p.m. at the Palmerton Area Heritage Center," and "Please visit the Palmerton Area Heritage Center for information/tickets to many other events planned for the yearlong celebration."

The winner will be awarded a monetary prize and will be recognized at the 20th birthday party to be held on April 24.

For more information, call the center at (610) 824-6954. Students are encouraged to visit the center at 410 Delaware Ave., and pick up a free historical booklet.
