Successful Miller Bloodmobile
In spite of the threat of yet another snowstorm, 75 potential donors registered for the Miler-Keystone bloodmobile at the First United Church of Christ on Feb. 9. From these donors, 57 whole blood units were collected. In addition, blood fractions donated on the Trima machine added 6, for a total of 63 units. The following donors reached various gallon levels: Thomas Davies, 15 gallons; David Huszar, 12 gallons; John Aulenbach, Jr., 8 gallons; Terry Costenbader and Margaret Rodrigues, 2 gallons; and Gayle Eckhart, 1 gallon. Palmerton is blessed with many regular donors. Of those registered, 43 had also presented at the previous bloodmobile in December, and quite a few had donated in at least four or five of last year's six Miller community visits to Palmerton.
Bloodmobiles, like many other organizations, depend heavily on volunteers, many working 'behind the scenes,' to function successfully. The next Miller-Keystone community visit is scheduled for Thursday, April 8. There will also be a Miller bloodmobile at Palmerton Area High School on Wednesday, Feb. 24, primarily for students and staff.
