Must be a better way
Dear Editor:
I would like to weigh in on the recent talk of a new school to be built in the Jim Thorpe district. I would like to point out there are online charter schools that local folks are currently succesfully teaching children at home.
I say Bravo! to those who are enrolled. These brave and resourseful parent/teachers deserve praise they are helping alleviate burdens to taxpayers while performing a valuable service.
I never notice the budget increase of the staffing and related issues when the figures for constructing the new school comes up just the bricks and morter figures. Public schools are a huge burden on land taxpayers. Rememeber the money that is taken from us to fund these massive undertakings will not go directly into this community.
Further with this depression, yes depression, we are in will not end any time soon the jobs are not there to produce revenue. Do some simple math and you will see today's wages against your living expenses and see what's left its not a lot.
There has got to be a way to convey information to children that does not cost these huge amounts of dollars. The time has come for reform and change, use what resourses are available across the board pay cuts whatever it takes to acheive a sustainable tax base.
