Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating two crashes, one a hit and run in which the driver fled on foot, along Schuylkill County roadways.
Troopers said a crash occurred about 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, along Deiberts Valley Road, near Burma Road, in South Manheim Township. Corbin R. Wrona, 19, of Schuylkill Haven, was eastbound when he lost control of his 1986 Mazda RX7 while negotiating a left curve. The car spun counter-clockwise 270-degrees and crossed the westbound lane. The rear of the car impacted with a tree along the shoulder, troopers said.
Wrona and passenger, Ryan Reber, 18, of Lebanon, were both not wearing seat belts and injured. They were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, for treatment of injuries. The car had to be towed from the scene.
Troopers said Wrona was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
The hit and run occurred along Ash Road, at S. Second St., in Cressona. Troopers said a 1985 Chevrolet Caprice was driven southbound and approaching the intersection with S. Second St. when the driver made a careless turn left while traveling too fast and lost control. The car went onto the berm and into a snow bank. It then entered a parking lot and began sliding on ice. The car then turned counter-clockwise and struck a guide wire supporting a telephone company pole.
After impact with the pole the wire snapped off causing wires to come down across Second St. The car came to rest on a snow pile and became struck.
The driver attempted to pull the car out of the snow but failed and then fled on foot. The crash occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
